You wove the superstitions of being born with a caul and the albatross so well into the story of being sent to war. And the not understanding what even being there was for - very good writing.

So glad you enjoyed it. I’ve always liked the albatross stuff, and I recently heard about being born in caul—I am glad they could work together in this story. Thanks for the read. I appreciate it.

This is such a great story, Nathan...I haven't thought about cauls in years, and this tale brought it all back to me. Great descriptive work...really placed me there; sounds, smells...super effective! Thanks for this!

Holy hell, NH. The way this one builds. The way the details pile on and the character, the setting, the other characters, the action, all reveal themselves, just like bam, bam, bam... then the sick suspense, the fascination, and the calm. This might be my new favorite of yours.

Aw, thanks, Jean. I appreciate the read. Glad you enjoyed it. This story was inspired by one of the birthing classes I attended. I didn’t know the term in caul. It is an interesting occurrence.

“I am optimistic” — I appreciate pairing the caul superstition with that of the albatross.
